Philadelphia is a very easy city to navigate, and it’s made
all the more easier by the impeccable bus and railway service.
The Southeastern Philadelphia Transportation Authority, or
SEPTA, is in charge of both commuter rail service as well as all
buses in the vicinity, so if you see the sign in the window or
on the side of the vehicle, you know you’re fine. To make your
commuting as easy as possible, we’ve compiled this page of
useful information.
Trains
Be sure to check out both the Suburban
Station and Market East
Station, which provide quick and easy access to shopping
facilities, hotels, and most of the major businesses. If you’re
looking to get out of town, see the 30th Street
Station, as you will be able to easily link up to an AMTRAK
train and be on your way. All of the above stations also move
right into the airport, so you won’t have to worry about that,
either.
Subways are also safe and easy ways to get around town. The
Market-Frankford runs east and west, while Broad Street trains
can take you north and south; both span the entire city. The
usual fare is $1.50, and exact change is necessary. You might
want to consider purchasing a SEPTA Day Pass, which is only $5.00
and allows unlimited access on any SEPTA vehicle and will also
take you to the airport. These passes are available for purchase
at the Visitors Center on John F. Kennedy Boulevard and 16th
Street.

Buses
Buses run all over the city and stop at frequently-placed,
well-marked locations all over Philadelphia. For specific routes
and rates, call (215)580-7800. Some of the more-traveled routes
are the Broad Street Line, which connects the city with the
sports facilities, and the PATCO (Port Authority Transit
Corporation), which spans the length of Center City as well as
convenient stops in southern New Jersey, such as the Aquarium in
Camden. The best places to hop on a SEPTA train are at Broad
Street, Market Frankford, and Route 76. You really shouldn’t
have any problem getting around town.
