Philadelphia is a great city for indulging in the arts.  Besides the world renowned Philly Pops, there are exceptional opportunities to view great theater, opera, ballet and dance.

Peter Nero and the Philly Pops have been delighting art patrons with their world-class performances.  Nero has garnered immense praise from critics and fans alike, and has even appeared on CBS and PBS in the past few years.  While the Philly Pops does travel to other major cities from time to time, they are still home for most of the year; do check them out, as they bring a whole new slant to instrumental performance.

Additionally, the Philadelphia Orchestra performs throughout the fall and winter months, operating out of the Academy of Music.  During the summer, they are known to host breathtaking performances at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts in West Fairmount Park.  Under the direction of Wolfgang Sawallisch, a German flavor is seamlessly blended with the traditional orchestra sound to form a truly worthwhile experience.

Finally, the Pennsylvania Ballet, which also performs at the Academy of Music as well as the Merriam Theater, will be starting the 2000 season in early autumn.  Under Roy Kaiser’s artistic direction, the company consistently garners high praise, especially for their season tradition, The Nutcracker.

For more contemporary acts, don’t forget about Veterans Stadium, the E-Centre, and the First Union Center, all of which host today’s hottest acts.  Be sure to get tickets well in advance, as the headliners tend to sell out within days.
